STEM GAs Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking an individual to serve as a Graduate Assistant (GA) in our graduate Bioinformatics program. This is an on-campus appointment. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience: Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution of higher education; Regular admission to a UA Little Rock graduate degree program or good standing with the UA Little Rock Graduate School for continuing graduate students; Ability to work the required hours (FT-50% - 20 hours per week/PT-25% - 10 hours per week) with regular attendance. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Perform tasks and assist faculty members in research activities for a designated project; Assist in the collection of data and/or conduct independent research specific to the research project; Perform development work for the project, which could include training, statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, programming, database, web design and development, system analysis, or network administration; Conduct testing, implementation, and evaluation of project deliverables; Coordinate project meetings and lead project discussions; Prepare reports and publications as needed; Assist in other specialized administrative, technical, or editorial duties connected to the research project. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities; Skill in planning, organization, coordination of activities; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; Skills in both verbal and written communication; Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications; Programming in languages such as Python or Java for Desktop, Server Side Web Apps, or Cloud; Web Design and Development Skills involving HTML, CSS, and Javascript; Database Development and Writing SQL Queries (Oracle, MS SQL Server); Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning; Knowledge of genetics and cell biology.
