, to provide timely, subject matter expert patent advice, guidance and insights to the Associate Directors, Licensing and Licensing Managers (Licensing Team) on patent management matters; and assume a wide range of responsibilities related to the filing, prosecution, maintenance, and defense of MIT's patent portfolio. Will manage patent portfolios in areas covering one or many of the following: optics, computing, artificial intelligence, hardware, communications, software, transportation, and/or energy technologies, therapeutic, diagnostic, drug delivery, genetic engineering, medical device, biomanufacturing, biomaterials and/or drug discovery technologies. . REQUIRED
: Bachelor's degree in physical or life sciences; Registered Patent Practitioner; a minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including managing or advising on large patent portfolios and experience filing and prosecuting patents, preferably at a company or university managing patent portfolios; deep knowledge of patent law; superior verbal and written communications skills; ability to interact capably with a variety of stakeholders; organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; problem-solving and decision-making skills; solid interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective working relationships; ability to work independently, and as a member of a team; exercise discretion in the performance of all work assignments; and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, matrix like environment and manage a large workload.
PREFERRED
: Advanced technical degree; demonstrated understanding of the needs of multiple stakeholders in a complex academic environment; and detailed understanding of nuanced issues related to the protection of IP and enforcement of patents owned by an academic institution.
