The
Licensing and Business Development Officer , within the Technology Licensing Office, is responsible for the commercialization of MIT’s intellectual property (IP) portfolio arising from research and other activities. The role manages a small portfolio of MIT’s IP, including technology evaluation, marketing, outreach to faculty and industry, business deal term creation, and distribution of IP through licensing and other commercialization agreements. The officer is the lead case manager for technologies in their portfolio, develops marketing, IP, and commercialization strategies, collaborates with TLO staff throughout the technology lifecycle, and trains junior licensing team members in case triage, management, and post-execution activities. Job Requirements
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technical, or business field; three years of experience in university technology transfer, federal labs, or FFRDCs managing IP portfolios, licensing, agreement management, and developing IP strategies; strong communication skills; organizational skills; problem-solving ability; interpersonal skills; ability to work under supervision in a fast-paced environment. Preferred:
Master’s degree in business administration or professional education; experience in deal development and license negotiations; familiarity with US Government and academic issues; prior MIT experience. This is a hybrid position, with core in-office days on Tuesday and Wednesday, and additional days as needed. Job #24981-8. The application deadline is 5/23/2025.
