Kennel Assistant (Animal Care Attendant)

VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center is a fast-paced, 24-hour emergency and specialty referral practice located in beautiful San Diego, California. We proudly opened our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility on July 14th and are excited to expand our team! We are currently seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant (Animal Care Attendant) to join our growing hospital. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, reliable, and committed to providing exceptional care to our hospitalized patients, as well as provide outstanding service to our clients. Base Pay: $17.40/hr Swing Differential: 7pm-12am $2.50/hr Overnight Differential: 12am-7am $5.50/hr Open Shifts- Day and swing shifts available Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Feeding and providing fresh water to all hospitalized patients as directed by the medical team Walking dogs and providing appropriate enrichment and comfort to all animals in our care Cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining kennels, runs, litter boxes, all animal holding areas, exam rooms, etc. Laundering hospital bedding and maintaining a clean and organized laundry area Monitoring animal behavior and reporting any signs of illness, stress, or abnormal activity to the medical team Assisting veterinary technicians and doctors in patient restraint, transport, or procedures when needed Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including restocking supplies and adhering to hospital infection control protocols Providing compassionate and respectful handling of all patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout their stay Requirements: Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting is preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently Must be able to lift 40+ lbs and be on your feet for extended periods Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of a 24/7 operation Join our supportive and collaborative team where your contribution makes a difference every day in the lives of pets and their families.
