Job Title
Work Location and Schedule: Primary Office: Charlotte, NC. Work Environment: Office and field-based, with exposure to outdoor utility and plant environments. Pay: $135k+ based on experience. Key Responsibilities
Perform project scope and alternative analyses to support business case development Create engineering standards, designs, and plans for water and wastewater systems Evaluate proposals and provide PE stamp/seal on approved designs Develop cost estimates, project specifications, and engineering documents Exercise sound engineering judgment on material and system selection Coordinate with regulatory agencies and technical personnel Oversee mid- to large-sized utility projects Select and specify project materials and equipment Hire, manage, and oversee external consultants or contractors Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with design and safety standards Coordinate construction activities with field operations teams Routinely act as Project Manager or Construction Superintendent Approve change orders and cost modifications as needed Update construction and engineering standards regularly Conduct hydraulic modeling and system analysis Respond to service requests and troubleshooting needs from operations Provide subject matter expertise to internal stakeholders Support capital planning and infrastructure improvement initiatives What You'll Bring
Experience
3+ years of project management experience 5+ years of professional engineering experience in the water/wastewater industry Experience with engineering design, construction, and contract administration Education & Certification
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental preferred) Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (required) Preferred Technical Skills
Experience with SCADA, GIS, and asset management systems (preferred) Familiarity with construction techniques, safety standards, and best practices General Skills & Attributes
Strong safety mindset and adherence to engineering safety practices Comprehensive understanding of municipal utility operations Project budgeting, scoping, and scheduling expertise Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical writing skills Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven Ability to balance engineering expertise with practical business needs Skilled in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and internal project management software Able to perform basic physical tasks (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, stooping) Valid driver's license required throughout employment Work Environment
