Pay:

The Project Utilities Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, and supervision of capital and in-house water and wastewater projects, while also providing technical and regulatory support to operations. This role plays a key part in driving utility infrastructure development, regulatory compliance, and construction oversight. Location & Travel

Primary Location:

Charlotte, NC (office-based) Travel:

Required 23 days per week; typically within driving distance (23 hours), mostly day trips Responsibilities

Design engineering plans for water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems Evaluate project proposals and provide PE stamp/seal when required Exercise professional engineering judgment for materials selection and process design Engage with regulatory agencies and technical partners Prepare engineering specifications, cost estimates, and design packages Provide oversight for mid-sized and large utility projects Coordinate with internal and external project teams to ensure successful project delivery Inspect construction work to ensure adherence to design and safety requirements May serve as project manager or construction superintendent on an as-needed basis Oversee change orders and adjust project plans as needed Conduct hydraulic modeling and analysis of water systems Provide field support for operations and troubleshooting Assist with capital planning and long-term infrastructure improvements Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications

3+ years of project management experience 35+ years of professional engineering experience, preferably in water/wastewater utilities Bachelors Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering P.E. License (required) Valid drivers license Preferred Skills

Experience in municipal water/sewer utility operations Strong project management and budgeting skills Understanding of construction methods, codes, and safety practices Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Familiarity with SCADA, GIS, and asset management systems (preferred) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage contractors and consultant engineering teams Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and self-directed approach Company Commitment
