Overview

The D341 Pipe Welding Engineering Construction Support group provides technical support and regulatory services to Electric Boat's Quonset Point (QP) facility core business, welding. D341 retains technical cognizance of and provides interpretation of procedures and specifications, as well as regulates the welding program as a whole by directly integrating with all related customers. D341 is looking for a qualified engineering candidate that exhibits the ability to provide on-job technical support, conduct problem resolution, write technical dispositions, lead special projects, and carry out small/medium/large quality corrective action tasks. Providing technical guidance for the application of all major welding processes (GMAW, SMAW, SAW, and GTAW) Writing technical dispositions in support of Engineering Reports, Change Notices, Welding Engineering Instructions, Major Technical Submittals, UNSATs/TIRs, Etc. Maintaining procedural and specification compliance oversight for submarine piping documents (NAVSEA specifications, EB standard procedures, and design drawings) Conducting on-job pipe welding and fit-up oversights to ensure procedural compliance in various work centers at QP Performing root cause analyses and evaluating problem resolution strategies for a wide variety of issues as required Coordinating with functional area leads to identify opportunities for process improvement and/or alternative welding processes Supporting upper management performance tracking goals by maintaining D341 cognizant data inputs and reports Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor degree or higher in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering. 2 to 5 years of experience working as a welding engineer In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience working with all major welding processes Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures Preferred:

Advanced degree in Welding Engineering or Metallurgy/Materials Joining Engineering Knowledge of welding fabrication specifications (military or commercial), metallurgy and NDT methods highly desired Knowledge/experience in robotics and lasers, as related to materials joining and welding, is highly desirable Prior welding experience is highly desirable Experience in an industrial welding environment, shipbuilding, or other heavy fabrication Familiarity with NAVSEA specifications Familiarity with JCALS, Teamcenter, and SAP Business Objects Skills

Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, and PowerPoint (or equivalent) Has excellent oral and written communication skills Works effectively individually and in teams Experience with technical writing (procedures, reports, briefings, memos, among other technical documents)
