Overview
Department D341 Welding and NDT Engineering - Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing is responsible for providing technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers with respect to welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines. This position sits within the Supplier Oversight Group and offers a challenging opportunity. Responsibilities
Participate in audits of suppliers performing welding to confirm contractual requirements are being followed at the suppliers location Follow up on audit findings and adjudicate findings affecting in-process and delivered hardware Review and approve supplier welding procedures Disposition vendor information requests Provide welding training and guidance to suppliers Demonstrate excellent communication to convey technical issues with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers and Electric Boat management Travel: frequency varies, up to one week at a time, up to once per month Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in Mechanical, Welding, Metallurgical, or Materials (if focus is on Metallics) 5+ years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial welding environment, shipbuilding, or other heavy fabrication Preferred
Experience with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of welding metallurgy Leadership experience Candidate is highly motivated, able to work independently, and able to interact with other groups and organizations, including regular interfacing with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Physical requirements
