Service Controls Engineer (LSS Chicago)
The
Service Controls Engineer III
conceptualizes, develops, and programs retrofits and upgrades of automated equipment hardware and software according to customer and internal specifications of legacy equipment. Capable of being the Controls Engineering Lead on large multi-module custom systems. In this role, you will travel 75% of the time. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Lead the development of controls architecture, system retrofits, and optimize performance expectations. Program control systems for cam, servo, and air-operated stations, along with test and electrical devices. Ensure the electrical design is functional, robust, and cost-effective. Innovate and incorporate ATS Life Sciences Chicago standards and regulatory requirements. Research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components. Create electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, bill of materials (BOM), organize release packages, and update schematics. Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed. Provide estimates for controls engineering hours to design retrofits and upgrades on existing machines according to specifications. Guide Electricians in wiring and codes. Support software validation requirements. Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues. Work within the project schedule and budget. Problem-solve with Mechanical Builders, debug software issues, and update documentation. Communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing. Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, maintaining objectivity and openness to other views. Prioritize, plan, and organize work and workspace. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience. Six or more years of automation experience. Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, servo control, and electrical design. Experience with programs such as Eplan, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office suite, etc. Experience with inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, multimeters, dB meters, etc. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Travel for this job is 75% of the time. Physical requirements include standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and bending. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently. Normal visual acuity for reading instructions and screens. Normal hearing ability for understanding verbal instructions. Work environment includes a normal office setting with occasional exposure to high noise levels and physical hazards on the manufacturing floor. Capable of wearing PPE for extended periods.
