Job Title: Vision Engineer II
Location: ATS Life Sciences Chicago
Job Type: Full‑Time
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Position Summary The Vision Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, programming, and supporting vision systems used in automated equipment. This role requires a strong technical background in vision inspection, lighting, and optics. The Vision Engineer II can independently lead small to medium‑sized automation projects (ranging from $500K to $1.5M) or support any scale of replication project.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of Vision Design Specifications (VDS) for automated systems.
Program and test vision systems for inspection and test stations.
Ensure functional, robust, and cost‑effective vision software and electrical architecture.
Integrate ATS standards and regulatory requirements into designs.
Research and specify appropriate purchased/preferred components.
Create electrical wiring schematics, BOMs, and release packages.
Guide Electricians during wiring and support software validation.
Work closely with Mechanical Engineering and Assembly teams.
Debug software and update related documentation.
Participate in internal/customer design reviews, installations, and service visits.
Mentor and support Vision Engineer I team members.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
2–6 years of hands‑on automation experience with vision systems, lighting, and optics.
Proficiency in commercial vision platforms (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, etc.).
Experience with Allen BRADLEY PLCs, HMIs, and electrical systems design.
Familiarity with Eplan, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to use common test and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, multimeters, dB meters).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, push/pull, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Visual acuity and normal hearing required for reading instructions and verbal communication.
Work in an office environment with occasional exposure to a manufacturing floor (noise and physical hazards).
Capable of wearing appropriate PPE for extended periods.
