Summary of position:
We are looking for a sharp, ambitious, and enthusiastic Financial Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate is someone that is passionate about working in a care team model with a personal responsibility of providing care for our orthopaedics patients and clinical support to the team. The right candidate will be able to provide an exceptional patient care experience that promotes healing and recovery, and having an attention to detail mindset while being caring and compassionate.

The responsibilities of a Financial Counselor include:
Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instruction.
Communicating with patients and insurance companies on the phone in a professional manner.
Answering calls regarding financial issues, payment options, medical coverage, and assistance programs.
Understanding and compliance with HIPAA laws and regulations.
Documenting and reporting all payment information.
Offering education and training to patients about their payment options and financial assistance opportunities.
Handling patient payment arrangement negotiations.
Reviewing and processing all patient and insurance company forms.
The ability to review patient bills in Athena and explain basic information for collections.
The ability to update patient insurance in Athena for rebilling of claims and send email to PRD team to complete action with detailed instructions if available.
Being a critical thinker and asking necessary questions to bring resolution to patient issues.
Understanding CareCredit and possessing the ability to explain its benefits to patients as a payment option.
Completing call notes on all calls taken and opening cases when accounts will need escalation to PRD or to Management.
Understanding the payment plan protocols and adhering to them.
Utilizing resources to determine patient coverage/benefit levels for surgical procedures.
Providing patients with estimates prior to scheduling procedure day.
Acting immediately to any urgent issues and working with the team to bring resolution for a positive patient experience and revenue collections.
Working effectively as a team unit to achieve department and company goals.
Following company core values in all aspects.
Being accountable for work production accuracy.
Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or company directive.
What You’ll Need:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
1+ years medical collections experience.
1+ years customer service experience.
1+ years in a medical office or hospital setting.
