The New Jersey Symphony is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking individual as its next

Vice President of Education and Community Engagement (ECE) . This role will play a vital role in the organization as it is responsible for the strategic direction of the Symphonys education team, youth orchestra programs and community programming. As the organization prepares for its new era, the selected candidate will have the exciting opportunity to expand on the Symphonys initiatives innew markets in Hudson County and across New Jersey. Department : Education & Community Engagement Reports to : President & CEO Location : Principal Office Newark, New Jersey until the Symphony Center opens, at which point Jersey City Status : Full Time, Exempt Salary : $118,000 As a senior member of the New Jersey Symphonys leadership team,this role is vital to the strategic direction and leadership of the New Jersey Symphony education team, youth orchestra programs and community programming. The position is vital to the expansion of the New Jersey Symphonys education and community engagement initiatives, especially in new markets throughout Hudson County and the State of New Jersey. Roles and Responsibilities

Education and Community Engagement

Develops and executes an annual education and community engagement strategy that includes adherence to the New Jersey Symphonys mission statement, strategic plan, and expansion of these efforts into Hudson County. Manages the ECE department staff and supervises the ECE Youth Orchestra conductors/artistic team. Creates and oversees the ECE annual budget and collaborates with the CFO to oversee the departments budget planning and financial strategy. Weekly and monthly assessment of the departmental programs and initiatives. Assesses the measurable benchmarks of the New Jersey Symphonys value to patrons, community partners, companies, and donors. Seeks opportunities to expand current educational programs and the expansion of programs and determines which elements or programs should be added to the ECE department deliverables. Collaborate with the Development Department on the cultivation and stewardship of the Symphonys donors in support of ECE programming. Ensures timely and effective communication of ECE programs and activities to New Jersey Symphony staff, board, community constituents, and cultural partners. Actively participate in executive leadership meetings and contribute to strategic discussions. Collaborate with the President & CEO, and other executives, in defining business plans that support the organizations strategic priorities with a growth mindset, creative ideas, and clear vision for how the ECE team will support and be integrated into the plan. Consults with the Board of Trustees ECE committee. Supports the use of clear and consistent brand and communications that articulate the New Jersey Symphonys vision and mission. Provides input for the New Jersey Symphonys website, newsletters, annual impact reports, and social media messages as they relate to the ECE Department. Determines the staffing needs of the department, recommend responsible use of resources, and direct staff to ensure the success of the New Jersey Symphonys fundraising strategies. Creates and maintains a best-in-class ECE team by training and cultivating an environment of success, building on the Symphonys artistic merit, educational initiatives, and community engagement. Provides operational oversight across the department, establishing goals and priorities, monitoring activities, evaluating progress, and adjusting, as necessary. Enhances the team's effectiveness and productivity by providing coaching and mentorship, motivating team members with energy, humor, and passion, and ensuring clear expectations. Executive Team

Attend and participate in Board meetings, includingExecutive Committee meetings. Serve, where appropriate, as a public-facing spokesperson for the department. Traits and Characteristics

The VP of Education and Community Engagement will be a strategic thinker with a strong passion for music education and the arts, who brings energy and a well-rounded array of competencies to inspire, guide, and mentor a dynamic ECE team committed to advancing the New Jersey Symphony mission. A creative leader with an optimistic and positive demeanor, the selected individual will be comfortable in taking initiative and challenging preconceptions. This self-directed leader will exhibit a drive for excellence and be motivated by a desire to learn and implement best practices to achieve goals. The selected candidate will also demonstrate the following competencies: 8+ years of experience in educational program development. Classroom teaching experience preferred. Exceptional management skills and ability to lead staff, as well as volunteers and community collaborators, in achieving the New Jersey Symphonys goals. Proven successes in reaching into underserved communities with educational programs and activities to benefit audiences of all ages. Experience with youth ensembles and knowledge of orchestral repertoire preferred. Record of successful career growth with 5+ years of team leadership experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent public speaking and presentation skills. Exceptional people skills and a professional demeanor, with ability to exercise the utmost discretion with confidential/sensitive information. Strong leadership skills with ability to inspire staff and donors. Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups of people. A balanced approach to leadership, with comfort operating both strategically and tactically. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Passionate commitment to the performing arts, specifically music. Detail-oriented with ability to think quickly and use sound judgment. Strong analytical and data-driven skills. Qualifications

Applicants must possess a bachelors degree, masters degree preferred, plus a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible senior management expertise in the arts, arts education, or a related field. Candidates will be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products along with development CRM systems, preferably Tessitura. Compensation and Benefits

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $118,000commensurate with the applicants skills and experience, and benefits package including paid time off, a generous health insurance plan, pension, parking, and other employee benefits, as available. Hours:

Full time, evenings, and weekends required, specifically for working at concerts and events in multiple locations throughout northern and central New Jersey.
