Database Engineer
Our client, a leading insurance provider, is looking to hire a Database Engineer to enhance the scalability, security, and performance of its enterprise data platforms. In the insurance industry, data is mission-critical for underwriting, claims processing, fraud detection, and customer experience. You'll leverage your expertise in both traditional relational database systems (RDBMS) such as SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL, as well as modern NoSQL platforms like MongoDB or Cassandra. This is a hybrid contract position in Boston. Required Skills & Experience: 4-year degree or equivalent professional experience 35 years of hands-on Database Administration experience Proven experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB in both on-prem and cloud environments Background in performance tuning, index optimization, and server-level configuration Familiarity with backup/recovery practices and capacity management Strong scripting skills for automation Experience with CI/CD pipelines and NoSQL tools Working knowledge of AWS and/or Azure environments Desired Skills & Experience: Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and data warehouse concepts Previous financial services or high-regulation industry experience Strong interpersonal and communication skills Experience supporting 24/7 production systems What You Will Be Doing: Tech Breakdown: 50% PostgreSQL/MySQL/MariaDB administration 20% Cloud configuration and migration (AWS/Azure) 15% CI/CD & automation scripting 10% Backup/recovery and monitoring 5% NoSQL tooling exposure Daily Responsibilities: 70% Hands-On Database Administration 10% Infrastructure Automation 10% Performance Tuning/Optimization 10% Cross-functional Team Collaboration The Offer: Bonus eligible.
