Position Summary:
Massachusetts Ready Mix is seeking a hands-on and results-driven Quality Control Manager to lead our concrete QC operations and uphold our core value of Quality. This individual will report to the Director of Quality and oversee day-to-day quality control processes, interface with state Department of Transportation (DOT) agencies and customers, manage concrete mix designs, and drive R&D initiatives to continually improve product performance. This role is critical to ensuring our concrete meets all technical requirements, performance standards, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the QC team across MRM and job sites
Represent MRM in a professional manner when dealing with state DOTs, third-party inspectors, and project stakeholders
Develop, review, and maintain concrete mix designs for a variety of applications
Oversee product testing and analysis, including slump, air, strength, and temperature
Manage material qualifications, batching tolerances, and field troubleshooting
Handle NCRs, quality notifications, and customer complaints with urgency and professionalism
Provide training and guidance to plant and field personnel on QC best practices
Work with operations and sales teams to align product performance with customer and spec requirements
Drive innovation and research in mix designs (e.g., sustainability, strength gain, SCC, specialty mixes)
Maintain documentation and compliance with relevant ACI, ASTM, and DOT standards
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in concrete quality control, mix design, or related field
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related field preferred but not required
ACI Level I certification required; Level II or higher preferred
Deep understanding of concrete performance, batching systems, raw materials, and testing procedures
Experience interacting with DOTs, engineering firms, and jobsite QC/inspection personnel
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and follow-through
Strong communication and leadership skills
Proficiency with Excel, Word, and basic reporting tools; familiarity with Command QC or equivalent a plus
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to MRM jobsites as needed
