As a Principal AI Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building the next generation of copilots and intelligent data agents that empower key business decisions by Microsoft senior leadership through data-driven insights and automation. Responsibilities: Architect and build intelligent agents that automate data workflows, insights generation, and stakeholder interactions. Integrate generative AI into data engineering pipelines and analytics platforms to enable scalable and adaptive solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and engineering partners to deliver high-impact outcomes. Drive technical strategy and execution for agent-based systems focused on data and insights. Ensure performance, reliability, and security of solutions across diverse data environments. Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and technical excellence. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR equivalent experience. 3+ Years of experience with a proven track record of building distributed systems, data pipelines, and analytics platforms. 1+ Years of experience with proficiency in cloud technologies (Azure preferred), microservices, and API design. Experience in Fabric, Pyspark or other big data technologies. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling OR data engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering OR equivalent experience. 6+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering, with a background in data systems and AI. 3+ years experience with data governance, data compliance and/or data security. 1+ Experience with architectures, frameworks and technologies (such as MCP, A2A protocol, Langchain, Azure AI Foundry) Experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID for identity and access management in enterprise environments Familiarity with enterprise-scale data governance, security, and compliance. Demonstrated success in delivering products that drive measurable business impact. Passion for innovation in data engineering and AI-driven analytics. Hands-on experience with generative AI frameworks, LLMs, and agent-based architectures. Data Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
