Job Description
Job Title: Cath Lab Tech
Profession: Cath Lab Technician

Shift: 10-hour days
Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a Cath Lab Tech
License: IEMA Certified or willing to obtain
Certifications: ARRT Certified, CPR Certified
Must-Have:
- Knowledge of principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology, typically obtained through completion of two years post-high school training at an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
- At least 1 year of on-the-job experience to gain technical competency in performing radiologic special procedures.
Description:
Performs cine, digital subtraction angiography, and other specialized radiologic procedures under sterile technique.
Aids physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Prepares examination area and positions patients for procedures.
Operates complex radiology equipment in accordance with established techniques and routines.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate for the ages of the patients served.
Follows established guidelines for radiation safety.
Operates the physiologic monitor to record functions of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures.
Functions as a scrub tech, which includes obtaining and arranging sterile set-up of the instrument table with supplies required for specific procedures.
Passes catheters and other sterile instruments and equipment to the physician.
Anticipates and responds to the needs of the physician during the procedure, ensuring cleanliness of all exposed surfaces.
Prepares patients for procedures by positioning them and applying sterile technique to catheter insertion sites.
Explains procedures to patients to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation.
Reviews patient charts prior to procedures to verify all required laboratory work has been completed.
Completes necessary paperwork, maintains patient records, and files films.
Operates complex radiology equipment such as special x-ray tubes for biplane filming and digital subtraction devices.
Calculates and selects proper technical factors based on patient size, physical condition, and suspected pathology.
Ensures proper injection programs necessary for diagnostic procedures.
Transfers images to the picture archival system, ensuring all images are permanently archived in the patient's record.
Ensures all old and new exams are correctly stored in patient records.
Monitors patients' cardiovascular and pulmonary systems during procedures, recognizing arrhythmias and changes.
Alerts physician to changes in instrument readings that are outside normal ranges.
Calculates hemodynamic data for presentation to the physician.
Attends mandatory department meetings and work-related educational programs.
Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with departmental personnel and outside agencies.
Assists in preparing the room between patients by tearing down equipment, disposing of contaminated materials, and replenishing supplies.
Completes monthly on-call requirements.
Attends meetings and educational programs to support continuous quality improvement efforts designed to enhance patient outcomes and improve utilization of resources.
Successfully completes the special procedure technologist competency.
