Job Description
Job Title: Adult Echo Tech
Profession: Clinical - Allied
Specialty: Cardiovascular Lab
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 10 Hour Days
Hours per Shift: 8 hours
Experience: 1-4 years of inpatient/outpatient cardiac ultrasound experience
License: Required state licensing for Medical Imaging or Clienttion Therapy
Certifications:
- ARDMS/RDCS with one of the following specialties: AE, FE, PE
- OR One CCI credential: RCS, RCCS
- BLS from an accredited organization
Must-Have:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of a Bachelor's program in health science or graduate of an accredited program in cardiac ultrasound preferred
Description:
Floating between departments and local locations within 20 miles is required.
Performs all cardiac ultrasound (echocardiograms).
Produces images of the heart to show hemodynamics and function via cardiac ultrasound.
Cardiac images are digitally acquired, and measurements obtained.
Ensures patient safety through the use of procedure protocols and policies.
Continues to hone skills and techniques as a beginner sonographer.
Further develops technical skills and learns the different procedures.
Performs all routine echocardiograms independently for evaluation of possible abnormal heart defects or disease (inpatient or outpatient).
Learns to perform Stress echocardiograms and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms with a mentor.
Progresses to be more independent with these modalities.
Requires knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pathophysiology, and principles of ultrasound.
Applies independent judgment during the exam to determine the need for any additional imaging enhancement or bubble study.
Demonstrates basic clinical knowledge and judgment to manage the patient during the exam.
Continues to develop critical thinking skills with the ability to recognize, analyze and resolve problems to ensure completion of performed exams.
Accurately completes charges for all exams performed in the EHR system as well as initiates and assigns the preliminary report in PACS.
Submits required studies for case review, working with a mentor on case requirements.
Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops, and publications.
Available for call on a monthly rotational basis.
Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection disease and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
Assists in machine malfunctions by calling service and alerting the lead techs.
Maintains and documents communications regarding test results.
Communicates with the patient in a manner appropriate to their ability to understand.
Functions as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements.
Consults with and keeps lead techs informed of activities, needs, and problems in assigned areas.
Maintains requirements for departmental and specialty area competencies.
Participates in and endorses established policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the practice of echocardiography.
Performs other duties and functions as required.
