Electrical Design Engineer
Position Summary:
The Electrical Design Engineer prepares technical drawings of wiring and electrical equipment, such as control panels; based on specified BOM (Bill of Materials) provided by in house or consulting Engineers. The Engineer applies their knowledge to the electrical system design to relate technical specifications, drawings, instructions, arrangements and installation layout and procedures to the basic design intent provided by the electrical controls Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
·
Collaborate with Engineers to create P&ID, schematics and panel drawing sets.
·
Integrate written and verbal communications into the design and manufacturing drawings.
·
Prepare finished drawings and distribute as required.
·
Examine Engineering drawings for compliance with cited specifications.
·
Provide timely technical assistance and solutions.
·
Specify Basic Control Panels Components for Purchasing.
·
Provide cost estimate by soliciting quotes from approved vendors.
·
Inspect Electrical Control Panels for correct assembly and quality control.
·
Complete timesheets to track drawing hour requirements.
·
Update and maintain drafting records as required.
Job Duties:
Once customer order is confirmed and released internally:
Confirm equipment selection, design, and operation as quoted/sold to customer.
Coordinate with internal engineering teams on equipment and component selection for design of the electrical control systems.
Utilize AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD to develop electrical control panels and provide complete drafting packages.

UL 508/UL 698 experience
Application of relevant codes, standards, specifications, etc. as required
Interact with Controls Engineer and Controls Engineering Manager on system design and scheduling as needed
Interact with Project Engineer on scheduling and clarifications with customer
Perform additional duties as assigned/required.
Qualifications:
Associate or bachelor’s degree (: Engineering or Technology field relative to Instrumentation, Electrical, MET, Inst. Tech) or equivalent experience as justified.
2+ years design and/or drafting experience with electrical systems, instrumentation, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
3-5+ years’ experience with AutoCAD or equivalent
Solidworks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical experience a plus as well as 3D.
Electrical design/installation
Familiarity with:
Programmable Logic Controllers
Power Distribution
Relay Logic
Instrumentation Selection (e.g. transmitters, meters, etc.)
Variable Frequency Drives
Voltages 12VDC up to 480VAC
Networking systems and Fiber Optic communications
Component sizing and selection for control and power distribution equipment
Familiarity with local and federal codes, regulations, specifications, etc.
To include NRTL applications such as UL/cUL specifically UL508 and UL698
NFPA
CSA application experience is a plus
Familiarity with standard wiring practices and installation methods in both unclassified and classified areas.
Above can be excluded if provided with equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be proficient in standard personal computer skills and professional correspondence. Employee is always expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, both inside and outside the workplace
Qualifications/Skills Required
·
Associate degree in CADD and Solidworks 3D. Degree in Electrical/electronic Engineering Technology is a plus.
·
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD or Solidworks 3D Electrical Drafting software is essential.
·
Aptitude to read and understand engineering drawings.
·
Ability to create complete manufacturing drawings sets, wiring schematics, Interconnection diagrams and control panel drawings.
·
Highly flexible with strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
·
A self-starter with the ability to plan and prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
·
Very detailed oriented with a high attention to accuracy.
·
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence cross functionally with all employees and clients.
·
Accepts responsibility and is accountable for expectations and actions.
·
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel. Adobe Read & Write, TEAMS.
