Today’s dynamic global security threats require solutions both big and small – solutions living within the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC). One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a
Staff Digital Design Engineer
with demonstrated experience as an ASIC/FPGA Digital Design Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME). The candidate should be able to provide technical leadership in digital design, supporting emerging supercomputing technologies. This position requires experience applying Electrical Engineering practices to all phases of FPGA/ASIC designs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Recognized SME in digital design engineering, FPGA and/or ASIC design/implementation, and new technology development
Oversee, lead, and collaborate on digital designs involving FPGA, ASIC, Digital Subsystems Design and Architecture
Lead a digital design team of 3-4 engineers
Support staffing and recruiting needs
Develop strategies for skills development in VHDL/FPGA, embedded Firmware, Digital board design, and subsystems architecture
Partner with program management to maintain program execution and continuous improvement
Support and maintain digital engineering processes and procedures
Provide technical guidance related to process and training
This position will serve 100% on-site in Linthicum and/or Annapolis Junction, MD.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of experience, Master’s degree with 10 years, or PhD with 7 years in STEM or related fields
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects
Successful team collaboration and adaptability
Knowledge of System Verilog, Verilog, and/or VHDL
Experience with FPGA design tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, and QuestaSim
Full product life cycle experience in FPGA and/or ASIC design
Experience with ASIC/FPGA verification and debugging tools
Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills
U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s in STEM or Engineering Leadership
Familiarity with Xilinx and Intel FPGA technology
Experience with Agile (JIRA, Confluence)
Experience with ASIC front-end design tools
Verification IP experience
Coverage-driven verification experience
Timing closure experience
Bus functional models experience
Active security clearance
Salary Range: $169,100 - $253,700. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, and PTO.
