System Engineer Level 3 - Database Systems Specialist Join Our Mission-Critical Database Engineering Team We're seeking an experienced System Engineer Level 3 with specialized expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL database administration to support critical defense infrastructure. This role combines high-level systems engineering leadership with hands-on database management, requiring both strategic thinking and technical depth. The Opportunity As a Database Engineer Level 3, you'll be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise database systems that power mission-critical defense applications. You'll leverage your two decades of engineering experience to architect robust database solutions while providing technical leadership across integrated product teams. This position requires IAT Level II certification and offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge database technologies including Oracle Exadata/RAC and enterprise-grade PostgreSQL deployments. What You'll Do Database Systems Leadership Architect and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL database infrastructures supporting complex defense systems * Lead database builds, migrations, and decommissions while ensuring zero-downtime operations Implement advanced database technologies including Oracle Enterprise Management (OEM), BARMAN, PGADMIN, Data Pump, and Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) * Design and execute database monitoring strategies, performance optimization, and disaster recovery solutions * Manage Oracle Exadata/RAC environments and high-availability PostgreSQL clusters Systems Engineering Excellence * Analyze and translate user requirements and concept of operations documents into comprehensive system specifications * Lead cross-functional teams in developing system architectures aligned with DoDAF and Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) standards * Guide the integration of database systems within larger defense platforms, ensuring seamless interoperability * Develop and maintain critical technical documentation including System Engineering Plans, Interface Control Documents, and Requirements Specifications * Serve as technical authority for database-related systems engineering decisions and provide guidance to government stakeholders Technical Integration & Innovation * Drive the development of database solutions that satisfy complex functional and non-functional requirements * Participate in Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities and lead resolution of database-related action items * Implement comprehensive security controls meeting Information Assurance requirements for Confidentiality, Integrity, Non-repudiation, and Availability * Conduct trade analyses optimizing database system operations across the entire lifecycle * Establish and maintain database configuration baselines through development, deployment, and operations phases What You'll Bring Required Qualifications Experience: Twenty (20) years as a System Engineer in programs of similar scope and complexity, with demonstrated database administration expertise Education: Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university Certification: Current IAT Level II certification (Security CE, CCNA-Security, CySA, GICSP, GSEC, or equivalent) Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance Technical Expertise * Expert-level proficiency in Oracle Database administration including RAC, Exadata, RMAN, and Data Pump Advanced PostgreSQL database management skills including BARMAN and PGADMIN * Deep understanding of database performance tuning, backup/recovery strategies, and high-availability architectures * Experience with database migration methodologies and tools Why This Role Matters Your expertise will directly support national security objectives by ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of critical database infrastructure.
