The Controller at Christ Church Cathedral is a key member of the Cathedrals leadership team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management. This individual ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and compliance while supporting the Cathedrals strategic goals and daily operations. The Controller works closely with clergy, staff, lay leadership, and external partners to uphold fiscal health and stewardship in alignment with the Cathedrals mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
• Prepare timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, relevant nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable regulations.
• Manage the annual budget process and provide ongoing budget-to-actual analysis for departments and ministries.
• Coordinate annual audits with external auditors.
• Supervise and support the Bookkeeper, fostering a collaborative and professional finance team.
• Oversee cash flow management, investment reporting, and grant tracking.
• Partner with leadership on financial planning and resource allocation to advance the Cathedrals mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Nonprofit accounting experience preferred; familiarity with fund accounting a plus.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders in a mission-driven environment.
