Position Summary
The Procurement Manager is responsible for the strategic sourcing and procurement of essential materialsincluding active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), raw materials, and packaging componentscritical to pharmaceutical manufacturing. This role ensures timely availability of compliant, high-quality materials while optimizing costs and fostering resilient supplier partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Selection
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for APIs, raw materials, and packaging components
- Evaluate and onboard suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and compliance criteria
- Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers
- Negotiate contracts and service-level agreements
- Monitor supplier performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Regulatory & Quality Compliance
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Regulatory teams to ensure materials meet FDA, cGMP, and other applicable standards
- Stay current on regulatory changes and ensure procurement practices remain compliant
- Inventory & Demand Coordination
- Partner with Planning and Warehouse teams to align procurement with production schedules
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust procurement plans to prevent shortages or excess
- Cost Optimization & Market Intelligence
- Conduct market analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative sourcing options
- Develop and implement cost control strategies without compromising quality
- Procurement Operations & Documentation
- Manage end-to-end procurement processes including PO issuance, delivery tracking, discrepancy resolution, and returns
- Maintain accurate records of procurement activities and ensure audit readiness
- Risk Mitigation & Contingency Planning
- Identify supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Implement contingency plans to ensure continuity of supply during disruptions
- Process Improvement & Innovation
- Lead initiatives to streamline procurement workflows and enhance operational efficiency
- Champion digital tools and automation to improve procurement visibility and control
- Bachelors degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Chemistry, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of procurement experience in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, or regulated industries
- Deep understanding of cGMP, FDA regulations, and pharmaceutical supply chain dynamics
- Proven negotiation and contract management expertise
- Strong analytical skills with experience in market analysis and supplier evaluation
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), procurement platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite
