Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Purchasing Lead/Manager spends most of their time ordering products and materials from approved suppliers and distributors while seeking quality goods at reasonable prices. This role may require searching for reliable vendors or suppliers to add to our approved list to provide existing or new products. Responsibilities include negotiating prices and contracts, reviewing technical specifications for raw materials, components, and equipment, and determining order quantities and delivery schedules. Additional duties include:

  1. Maintaining records of goods ordered and received.
  2. Locating vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies, and interviewing them to determine product availability and sales terms.
  3. Reviewing purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  4. Proposing improvements to the purchasing system to enhance vendor relationships and reduce costs.
  5. Collaborating with the Materials Manager, Inventory Control staff, and program managers to develop metrics for inventory needs and maintaining appropriate levels throughout the year.
  6. Leading efforts to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to offset losses.
  7. Managing daily purchasing activities and ensuring team members meet performance standards.
  8. Maintaining and managing inventory accuracy levels aligned with company goals.
  9. Supporting roles such as Purchasing Assistants, Receiving, Cycle Counting, Purchasing Admins, and Inventory Control.

Required Qualifications:

The preferred candidates will have:

  • At least 4 years managing Purchasing teams or processes
  • College degree (preferred)
  • Lean experience (preferred)
  • APICS/CPIM certification (strongly preferred)
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with AS400 (preferred)
  • Knowledge of internal processes and procedures, with follow-through on assignments
