Pay Information $2,723 per week About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, PALS Must-Have: Strong IV skills Description: All nurses are required to float to Pediatrics and Postpartum. Nurses will take a patient assignment including couplet care in Postpartum. Completion of all required modules is necessary prior to arrival. Failure to complete all modules will result in travel delays. CERNER experience is required. The unit is a Level 3 NICU with an average census of 22 patients in a 30-bed unit. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary from 1 to 1, 1 to 2, and 1 to 3. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner, along with security and breast milk scanning systems. A Charge Nurse is present on each shift. There are no nurse aides on the unit. Every other weekend is required, with potential for additional shifts. Nurses are expected to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Travelers will not be asked to take call. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit is equipped with telemonitoring and various ventilation equipment. Neonatologists are on call 24/7, with plans to have in-house coverage soon. The unit has a strong focus on intravenous therapy, requiring strong IV skills. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, with 1-2 therapists in the unit. Pharmacy services are also available 24/7. Shifts available are 7a and 7p. Floating to Pediatrics is minimal. Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the floor. Common diagnoses include patients ranging from 22 weeks to term, with high volumes of sepsis, respiratory issues, and drug withdrawal cases. The unit has a significant workload with a large volume of IVs and TPN administration. There is no ECMO in this unit. A delivery nurse and respiratory therapist attend high-risk deliveries. Nurses must be comfortable working with surrogates. The cancellation policy allows for shifts to be canceled up to 4 times within the assignment duration.
