Job Title: Obstetrics RN, Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Obstetrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 7 years in Obstetrics care License: Current RN licensure Certifications: Current CPR certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and ACLS within one year of employment Must-Have: - Knowledge of or interest in labor, delivery, and postpartum nursing care essentials - Principles of sterile technique and infection control - Skilled in technical aspects of mother/infant care - Ability to perform effectively in highly stressful situations - Strong communication skills Description: The RN is responsible for providing direct patient care within the scope of their practice. This position involves caring for women in labor, through delivery, and postpartum, as well as providing care for newborns. Responsibilities include performing assessments, monitoring the process of labor, preparing for C-sections and inductions, and proper documentation of nursing care. The RN administers care during labor, post-delivery, and postpartum, including infant care and providing patient education. The RN prepares the delivery room, provides emotional support, and coordinates transfers. Medications are administered intravenously, adhering to infection control principles and department policies. The role requires knowledge and/or interest in obstetrics and related equipment. Accountability: The RN reports directly to the Birth Center Manager. Special Demands: Physical demands include long periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting. Exposure to blood and body fluids, as well as unpleasant sights, smells, and infectious diseases, is possible. Working Environment: This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on the night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. May require rotating shifts and areas as staffing and census require. On-call duties are required. Holiday coverage is required.
