Mechanical Engineering Manager – Product Design & Production (Team Leader)

Mechanical Engineering Manager
will lead product design, testing, and production efforts, overseeing a team through a highly iterative hardware development process. This role emphasizes rapidly building physical prototypes, testing them in real-world conditions, refining designs, and repeating until product performance exceeds expectations. Successful candidates will value iterative design approaches that prioritize safety, quality, and speed over traditional linear processes. Responsibilities Lead the Mechanical Engineering, shop, and production teams. Oversee full lifecycle development of mechanical systems: from need identification and CAD modeling to prototype construction, testing cycles, production revisions, and in-field validation. Direct design and testing of core systems, including enclosures, battery modules, thermal management, structural vessel integration, cargo securing, lifting/hoisting, and other key equipment. Guide the team in developing and improving production systems, including robotic arms, laser welders, and both robotic and manual assembly processes. Collaborate closely with electrical, marine, and software engineering teams. Manage project timelines, resources, budgets, and supplier relationships. Support the establishment and ramp-up of new production facilities. Qualifications Proven leadership experience in hazardous or high-stakes environments. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in leadership roles. Experience in marine engineering, energy storage systems, or automotive . Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks. Strong shop floor fluency (welding, cutting, machining, additive manufacturing, etc.). Solid first-principles engineering knowledge, including materials science, practical physics, heat transfer, statics, and mechanics. Excellent leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Bonus Skills Experience with robotics, programming, or electrical engineering.
