Network Engineer/System Administrator
HII-Mission Technologies is seeking a Network Engineer/System Administrator at our Virginia Beach, Virginia location. The Network Engineer/System Administrator, part of the Network Operations team, is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and security compliance of Windows-based systems, virtualized workloads, and endpoint infrastructure across multiple DoD enclaves. This role provides direct operational support to engineering efforts and contributes to the stability, performance, and security posture of mission systems. What You Will Do: Manage and support Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy. Administer Windows 11 virtual desktop clients (VDI) - deploying images, enforcing policies, and optimizing performance. Support and maintain VMware virtual infrastructure, including ESXi hosts and guest VMs, in collaboration with virtualization engineers. Apply and validate DISA STIGs on Windows systems; remediate findings in support of POA&M closure. Execute monthly patching and system updates across enclave endpoints and servers. Monitor system performance, conduct troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues to IT engineering leads. Maintain backup schedules, perform test restorations, and contribute to disaster recovery planning. Create and maintain technical documentation including configurations, patch logs, and incident response records. Provide Tier 2/3 support for technical issues across NETOPS-managed systems. Participate in NETOPS planning and change management activities, ensuring all system changes are coordinated and documented. What We Are Looking For: 15 years of relevant experience with bachelor's in related field; 13 years of relevant experience with master's in related field; 10 years of relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years of relevant experience. Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance. CompTIA Security+ (DoD 8570 baseline). Preferred: Bonus Points For: Expertise in Windows Server administration, including AD, DNS, and GPO enforcement. Experience supporting Windows 11 VDI environments, including login optimization and session stability. Familiarity with VMware vSphere, ESXi host management, and VM lifecycle. Competency in enforcing STIG controls and responding to audit requests. Strong troubleshooting skills for domain login issues, patch failures, and endpoint performance. Ability to collaborate effectively with network engineers, ISSO/ISSM, and virtualization staff. Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate. VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VCTA. GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC). Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate. Physical Requirements: May require working in an office, industrial, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
