Electric Regulatory Associate Attorney Job Overview: A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced associate attorney to join its dynamic team, specializing in electric regulatory matters. This opportunity is available for qualified candidates at the Seattle, WA office. This position provides a unique chance to work on high-profile regulatory and contract matters for a diverse range of clients, including utilities, developers, and power marketers. Duties: Provide legal counsel on regulatory matters related to the electric power industry. Represent investor-owned utilities, public power utilities, developers, and power marketers before state and federal regulatory bodies. Interpret and apply relevant statutes, regulations, and case law to complex regulatory issues. Draft and negotiate contracts, including power purchase agreements and tariffs. Prepare and file regulatory filings, including pleadings, testimony, and tariff proposals. Participate in regulatory proceedings and hearings before state utility commissions or courts. Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to develop effective strategies and solutions. Assist in managing legal projects, including conducting research and providing detailed analysis. Support business development and pro bono initiatives in alignment with the firm’s goals. Requirements: Minimum of 4 years of experience in electric regulatory law, at the state or federal level. Proven track record of managing complex legal matters in the energy sector. Strong experience drafting and interpreting regulatory filings, contracts, and legal documents. Previous experience working before state utility commissions or federal and state courts is a plus. Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and regulatory bodies. Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Education: J.D. from an accredited law school. Certifications: Admission to the Washington State Bar (or ability to obtain) is required. Skills: Strong research and writing skills with an ability to present complex legal concepts. In-depth understanding of the electric power industry and its regulatory framework. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external clients. Skilled in legal research tools and resources.
