Job Title

This position is responsible for professional and administrative work in complex planning in the Community Development Division. Responsibilities also include organizing and coordinating the advanced and more complex studies, analyzing research data and preparing written summary reports. Work is performed under the guidance of a division manager and is reviewed through reports, conferences, and results attained. Examples of Duties: Identifies solutions and coordinates efforts to meet ongoing transportation and transit needs and issues. Works with members of the industry, local, County and State agencies and various departments within the city to formulate policies, procedures and programs relating to transportation issues. Coordinates, prepares and submits projects to obtain local and state funding from grant programs including but not limited to Transportation Surtax and Roads for Economic Vitality (REV). Meets with development professionals, developers, outside agencies, and the public regarding development proposals or other problems thus serving in a key liaison role for transportation issues. Reviews and analyzes site plans to determine compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances and regulations in coordination with the city's traffic engineering consultant. Creates, implements and maintains systems for tracking and monitoring progress, including conducting surveys and other outcome-based performance measures to achieve the city's and neighborhood vision. Represents the city and works as key liaison to partner and coordinate transportation and transit planning program activities with planning organizations, councils, boards, and other state agencies, local governments, consultants, and general public. Assists Parks and Recreation Department with transportation planning efforts concerning the Community Shuttle Program. Submits required reporting to the County/State as needed. Provides technical assistance and answers public inquires regarding transportation and transit issues, programs, and projects. Coordinates and implements Traffic Management Team meetings. Develops, administers and monitors the city's Traffic Calming program. Coordinates and administers FDOT Local Agency Program (LAP) projects in the city as needed. Typical Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Public Administration, Engineering or other directly related field. Master's Degree preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in community development, transportation planning, engineering, or transportation management programs. GIS experience and project management experience preferred but not required. An equivalent of combination of education, training, and related experience will be considered in lieu of Master's Degree. Supplemental Information: Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
