Transit Bus Operator
Lee County Transit (LeeTran) is seeking to hire professional individuals to join our LeeTran family and make a difference in our community. Responsibilities include: The safe operation of the vehicle on an assigned or deviated route and schedule at various locations within the county Loading and unloading passengers, who may include the elderly and/or disabled, and transporting them to various locations Collecting fares Performing basic vehicle maintenance. Completing necessary reports and paperwork Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Transit Supervisors and the Operations Manager Minimum requirements include: Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. Possession of a valid Class A or B CDL with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement, OR valid Class A or B CDL Permit with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement prior to offer. Must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 30 days of hire date. (Training and testing provided by LeeTran staff.) Additional requirements include: Ability to exercise independent judgment in daily activities and be sensitive to passengers with various disabilities on a daily basis. Ability to drive in all weather conditions and in darkness. Ability to provide exceptional customer service to the public and fellow employees. One year of experience in the operation of a bus or heavy automotive equipment is preferred. LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 4:00 a.m. 11:00 p.m., with extended hours during seasonal service. Shifts and assignments: Day and evening shifts available. Shift schedules vary, and routes are selected by seniority at least semi-annually. Employees must be able to work any job assignment scheduled. Evening shifts offer additional compensation through shift differential. Opportunities for voluntary overtime are available.
