Job overview and responsibilities

The Manager - IT Applications Development is responsible for the supervision of a team of employees and contractors in the development, implementation, and maintenance of critical systems that support United's employee software. This technical manager will create and maintain the strategic partnership between business needs and technology delivery and lead the team in creating service solutions using the latest as well as legacy technologies. This individual will help build a versatile team that is in touch with the market and passionate about new technologies, while at the same time able to understand the needs of our customers and how emerging technology can improve customer experience.

Lead a technical team in achieving and maintaining alignment of delivery success criteria with business partners and IATA industry standards in shared workstation hardware and software(s).

Coach, develop, and inspire team members and sustain an environment in which they can thrive as members of a cohesive and impactful team

Effectively handle and deliver work requests and projects within committed budget, schedule and quality for individual projects while also meeting overall department performance goals

Ensure technology solutions align with architectural and evolving security standards

Collaborate with senior business and technology leaders to drive important initiatives

Plan project staffing, forecast budget, and communicate progress to senior IT and Business leadership

Coordinate operational impact troubleshooting sessions, build documentation and user stories for enhancements

Manage Common Use lab space for testing, troubleshooting, and vendor certification readiness, including the addition of new vendor's equipment

Communicate across 30+ internal application teams and many external stakeholders

Report status & risks for execution to leadership with limited oversight

Qualifications

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

Bachelor's degree

4+ years of application delivery and life cycle management experience

Consistent record of ownership and successful delivery

Strong planning, task creation, delegation, and organizational skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to clearly outline & communication ideas to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences

Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Ability to quickly triage and drive the resolution effort for production support situations

Passionate about the growth, development, and success of team members

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Up to 15% travel required, from Chicago location

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

Airline industry knowledge or experience

Experience with Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) or Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS)

Experience working with operations/business critical, high-availability systems

Application management in a mix of cloud and on-prem infrastructure

Familiarity with network operations & connectivity (IP address, host name or DNS)

The base pay range for this role is $109,820.00 to $142,936.00.

The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
