Minimum Qualifications : Hold a current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing Possess a minimum of a Master’s Degree in nursing. All degrees must be earned from accredited college or university. Have a minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in nursing, or the equivalent, within the past 8 years, including at least 3 years in nursing education. Maintain expertise appropriate to administrative responsibilities. Satisfy the certification requirements of the State Department of Education, Division of Occupational Education as a Supervisor/Director of Vocational-Technical Programs (preferred). Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Performance Responsibilities : Hold the legal administrative responsibility for the Practical Nurse Program (day and evening options) in accordance with Massachusetts Board of Nursing rules and regulations Supervise a nursing curriculum plan which shall provide a variety of learning experiences consistent with the program’s mission or philosophy and objectives or goals. The sciences, arts, humanities, and foundations of the profession, shall be an integral part of the nursing curriculum plan. Provides leadership and direction for nursing instructors and support staff. Prepares written agreements with clinical agencies, which define the responsibilities for each institution, and coordinates appropriate planning meetings and other meetings as necessary. Coordinates a systematic evaluation of all components of the program, including outcome measurements. Participates in the governance of the parent institution. Notifies the Board of Registration of any changes in administrative personnel in the program and/or changes in the CEO of the parent institution. Maintains student, faculty, and graduate records according to the school’s written policy. Prepares and submits the Annual Report to the Board. Coordinates and prepares the Accreditation requirements for Self-Study in advance of the Board’s visit for continuing approval status every 5 years, or as required, and any other similar report. Interviews potential faculty members and makes recommendations to the T.I Director and Superintendent. Assist in the preparation of the annual department budget and adhere to budgetary constraints Managing fiscal resources to maintain the program’s financial health Organizes and conducts departmental and in-service meetings. Evaluates teacher performance as contractually required and submits written performance evaluations with recommendations for reappointment and tenure. Assists with recruitment, interviewing and admission of qualified candidates into the nursing program. Arranges and administers pre-admission exam. Counsels students regarding academic or clinical performance, and assists students in meeting their educational and personal goals. Develops, implements and evaluates (with the faculty and student representative), student policies which are consistent with policies of the school, or with differences that are justified by program goals. Assists students with completing the NCLEX-PN application, and with those who need special accommodations taking the exam, or with completing the good moral character related documentation. Maintains appropriate nursing materials for the students and faculty. Reviews and edits STI Practical Nurse day and evening Student and Faculty handbooks and program materials. Explores new clinical affiliations. Maintains a current knowledge of appropriate educational trends through literature search, professional meetings and organizations, instructional programs, graduate courses, and visits to schools and clinical settings. Attends administrative meetings and community meetings as requested by the T.I. Director and Superintendent. Collaborates with other department staff to facilitate accomplishment of program goals and outcomes. Plans and implements meetings of the program’s Advisory Board two times per year, replacing and adding community members as needed, and insuring student representation. Plans and participates in the PN Program event for the School Open House(s). Represents STI and the Practical Nurse program on the Practical Nurse Educator Council, MARILN and other statewide and national organizations. Explores and participates in articulation studies and agreements from High Schools and to higher education. Reviews all transcripts for accuracy and completes requested documents for graduates of the program. Meets with and counsels students in regards to Satisfactory Academic Progress Works in conjunction with the Placement Coordinator to place students into employment as Practical Nurses or the equivalent at the conclusion of the program. Oversees duties of part-time STI clerk-typist. All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Position Type:
