private equity-backed E&P portfolio company
based in Houston, TX, with a strong record of acquiring, developing, and operating assets in the
Permian Basin . Backed by a well-capitalized private equity sponsor, the company is seeking a
hands-on, business-aligned Head of IT
to lead and evolve its technology function. This individual must bring a blend of
technical execution, operational leadership, and executive presence —with a clear ambition and capability to
grow into a CIO role
over time. This is a high-visibility position with direct influence on company performance and a seat at the leadership table. Own and lead all aspects of IT operations and infrastructure, including systems administration, cloud architecture, networking, and cybersecurity Serve as a strategic partner to the C-suite and field operations, aligning IT initiatives with business priorities Manage and optimize external vendor relationships (MSPs, SaaS, cloud platforms) to ensure reliability and performance Drive the execution of the IT roadmap, with an emphasis on scalability, automation, and digital transformation Lead the implementation and support of core oil & gas applications: land, SCADA, production reporting, ERP/accounting systems Ensure robust data security, governance, and disaster recovery practices are in place Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data analytics use cases and user enablement strategies Support and oversee light development and integration efforts, with an understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) Report IT metrics, risks, and improvement initiatives directly to executive leadership and investors Set the foundation for evolving the IT function into a future-ready organization—and grow into a CIO leadership role Candidate Profile
Proven track record in IT operations leadership within a growing, fast-paced environment Deep technical expertise across infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and cloud (Azure preferred) Experience supporting upstream oil & gas organizations or asset-heavy field operations Strong executive presence, with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders and field personnel alike Demonstrated success leading and delivering IT initiatives aligned with business objectives Comfortable in both strategic planning and hands-on execution Familiar with business systems, field applications, and digital enablement best practices Clear career ambition to grow into a CIO role and build an enterprise-grade IT organization over time Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree a plus Search Notes
