Yes About the Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to lead and scale the engineering function at a mission-driven health technology company that helps individuals understand and manage their DNA-based health risks. The organization leverages modern technology and genomic science to deliver secure, actionable, and lifelong health insights. The company recently launched commercial products, is generating revenue, and is positioned for rapid growth following a $23M Series B funding round. Engineering plays a central role in driving product innovation, regulatory compliance, and scalability across internal systems and infrastructure. Why This Role?
High-impact leadership role as the engineering team enters a major growth phase. Recently launched products with an active and growing user base. Engineering team expected to
double in size
over the next 1–2 years. Opportunity to shape engineering strategy, technical roadmap, and team culture. Operate in a complex and regulated environment supporting advanced genomic applications. Role Summary
This role will oversee the engineering team and assume full leadership of the function as the organization transitions to a dedicated CTO. It requires a strong balance of technical depth, organizational leadership, and experience operating in regulated health or biotech environments. Key Responsibilities
Scale the engineering team from ~18 to 35–50 over the next 1–2 years. Build and optimize engineering processes, development workflows, and team structure. Drive architectural and system-level decisions across platforms and tools. Maintain a ~10% hands-on technical presence (code reviews, technical direction, limited coding). Oversee backend-heavy projects focused on internal systems (bioinformatics pipelines, data platforms), rather than customer-facing UIs. Ensure development and delivery within high-compliance regulatory frameworks (e.g., CLIA, CAP, FDA). Candidate Profile
Must-Have Qualifications
Experience in a Director-level or higher engineering role, ideally within biotech, healthcare, or other regulated industries. 8+ years of engineering experience, with a strong technical foundation in Python. Proven ability to
scale and manage engineering teams
through high-growth periods. Strong track record of establishing development processes and engineering best practices. Preferred Qualifications
Background in bioinformatics or genomics. Experience working in or building software for regulated environments. Exposure to front-end engineering practices, even if not a primary focus. Hands-on technical contributions in past leadership roles. Experience across both startups and larger-scale organizations. What Makes You a Strong Fit
Leadership in engineering within a
regulated industry
(biotech, medtech, etc.). Experience
scaling teams from ~15 to 50+ engineers . Deep knowledge of Python and backend architecture. Demonstrated adaptability and growth through multiple company environments. Interview Process
