Senior Electric Powertrain Engineer Salary:
Up to $200,000 (DOE) A fast-growing startup is pioneering the future of zero-emission waterborne transportation. Their mission is to make waterways as accessible as highways, offering highly efficient electric vessels that redefine how goods and people move in congested coastal regions. Backed by leading venture capital firms and experienced technologists from top universities, the team combines expertise in aerospace, robotics, and marine systems to build the next generation of sustainable maritime technology. The Senior Electric Powertrain Engineer will lead the design, development, and delivery of a safe and reliable custom electric powertrain, including all high-voltage components from batteries to motors, for production-ready marine vessels. This role requires both technical depth and leadership ability, shaping a growing engineering team while remaining hands-on. Architect and deliver the full electric powertrain for production marine vessels. Oversee design and integration of batteries, BMS, PDUs, inverters, charging systems, and motors. Collaborate with vendors and contractors to design and build custom components. Lead and mentor the electrical engineering team, fostering technical excellence. Ensure compliance with standards and certification requirements for high-voltage powertrain systems. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). 4+ years of experience in electric powertrain design. Strong knowledge of Li-ion batteries, BMS, PDUs, inverters, and motors. Hands-on experience in C/C++ and embedded software development. Proficiency in schematic design, PCB layout, and CAD. Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, RS232, J1939. Proven team leadership with the ability to contribute as an individual engineer. Experience with maritime environments (IP ratings, ABYC standards, corrosion, galvanic isolation). Passion for boating and clean marine technology. Compensation and Benefits
