Overview
The Diocesan Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry plays a key leadership role (as an extension of the Bishop’s Ministry) responsible for fostering a vibrant culture of evangelization and discipleship among youth and young adults across the Diocese of Charlotte.
Responsibilities
Provide ongoing guidance, resources, and support to pastors and other adult ministry leaders
Develop strategies with an emphasis on kerygmatic evangelization and catechesis for youth and young adults
Regularly connect with youth ministers regarding their ministries through small group and one-on-one meetings
Coordinate leadership formation of parish ministry leaders and young adult ministries
Coordinate ministry formation and training
Plan, coordinate, execute, and evaluate diocesan youth and young adult-focused programs and initiatives, promoting involvement across the diocese. Such events include but are not limited to the Diocesan Youth Conference, Retreats, World Youth Day events, youth rallies, National Catholic Youth Conference, etc.
Establish and maintain interoffice relationships (e.g., Hispanic Ministry, Catholic Schools, Family Life, etc.) for collaborative efforts of youth evangelization and discipleship in parishes, schools, and through the community
Work closely with and participate with agencies outside the diocese towards the promotion of youth ministry growth with the diocese and beyond (i.e., Province, Regional, and National settings)
Serve as the diocesan coordinator for the Youth Council
Employ clear, regular, and effective communication strategies, promotional materials, etc. Maintain Youth Ministry website, Nimbus page, and social media
Present a proposed annual budget for approval; monitor the approved budget; maintain accurate and timely financial records
Regular attendance in all Catechetical Formation Office team meetings, weekly check-ins with the Director, etc.
Provide and maintain records as requested by the diocese
Gather survey results as directed by the Office of Catechetical Formation
Develop policies, protocols, and guidelines for the context of youth and young adult ministry
Provide regular information on these and other topics as needed: Sacramental Policies of the Diocese; Catechetical Formation Opportunities; Employee Handbook Policies; Diocesan Code of Ethics; Youth Ministry Protocols; Safe Environment Programs; Diocesan Catechetical Conference; Diocesan Eucharistic Congress
Other Responsibilities
Perform other relevant tasks for the diocese and the Office of Faith Formation as designated by the Director of the Office of Faith Formation
Requirements POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Experience, And Skills Required
The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, registered and active in a parish. Possess a bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or related field (master’s degree preferred). Have five years of demonstrable successful experience in parish/diocesan work.
Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
Be well-rounded in catechist formation and continuing education.
Have a good understanding of discipleship and evangelization models in order to assist parishes in deepening their understanding through consultation, formation, and training. Possess well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Spanish a plus.
Working Environment
This position is full-time and requires frequent travel to parishes and schools with occasional travel on weeknights, Saturdays, and Sundays.
