Senior Technical Manager, Bridge Inspection
WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Manager, Bridge Inspection role in the U.S. You can be based at any of our Pennsylvania offices (Bethlehem, Exton, Mechanicsburg, Blue Bell, Bristol, Wexford, and Pittsburgh). A hybrid position is possible. You will assist the Mid-Atlantic District's bridge inspection TEC Lead on a full-time basis with business development and winning bridge inspection and repair work for VDOT and other transportation agencies. You will use your education, licensure, and relevant work experience to perform independent evaluations of the condition, function and load-carrying capacity of structures and their components. These evaluations may form the basis of recommendations to facility owners for repair, rehabilitation, or replacement. Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, and perform PennDOT bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges. Liaise with client field/facility staff and communicate critical condition findings; lead or assist as needed. Direct other field team members and enforce safe operations in the field. Create or review all required inspection reports and ensure technical compliance with applicable standards and specifications. Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Support the Mid-Atlantic District and National Bridge Inspection group in performing bridge, ancillary, culvert inspections in different jurisdictions as required. Support the preparation of proposals, tasks, reports, and other documents. Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. 10+ years of NBIS bridge inspection experience with PennDOT and other transportation clients. Project Manager/Team Leader in PA and other states as necessary. Extensive successful management of bridge inspection projects for PennDOT. Completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course and additional PennDOT-mandated courses/trainings; attendance of additional NHI courses (e.g., NSTM, LRFR, Scour). Strong interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences. Demonstrated self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance to junior team members, with strict QA/QC adherence. Physical ability to perform continuous field work (heights, climbing, ladders, gear, adverse weather). Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability. Team-oriented; able to work well within a team. Valid, unrestricted driver's license. Ability to supervise, train and direct the work of team members. Time and budget management awareness. Proven track record of workplace safety and ability to comply with WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening. Additional FHWA/NHI Training - (130078) Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges/Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (130087) Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures. Experience inspecting complex bridges and/or tunnels. Experience inspecting ancillary sign structures. Familiar with or certifications in various NDT techniques, rope access techniques and/or UAS operations. About WSP
