in Washington, DC. This position supports the bureau's global outreach for alumni programming. The role develops and executes marketing and branding strategies for alumni, manages social media outreach and digital campaigns, creates marketing and web content for internal and external audiences, and serves as the lead point of contact for alumni-related social networking and storytelling initiatives. This position is for a Future New Business Opportunity.
Responsibilities
Support the bureau's global outreach efforts for alumni programming.
Develop and execute alumni marketing and branding strategies.
Manage general social media outreach and digital campaigns.
Create marketing and web content for internal and external audiences.
Serve as the lead point of contact for alumni-related social networking and storytelling initiatives.
Lead outreach to build and maintain the global alumni network, liaising with U.S. Embassies, State Department colleagues, NGOs, and alumni to promote resources via the International Exchange Alumni website.
Support the bureau's international exchange programs and initiatives through targeted outreach and engagement.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, communications, international affairs, public relations, or a related field
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance
Minimum of 3 years of specialized experience in alumni outreach, digital marketing, communications, or a related field
Required Skills and Competencies
Familiarity with U.S. foreign policy and international educational and cultural exchanges
Experience studying or working abroad
Proficiency in at least one foreign language
Technical Skills and Proficiencies
Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Adobe Creative Suite
Email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp)
HTML knowledge is a plus
Experience creating and managing content for social media and websites
Strong web marketing and editing skills
Knowledge of social networking technologies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Strong research, presentation, and creative skills
Flexible, team-oriented approach to work
Working Environment & Conditions This job operates in a professional office environment with a generally low to moderate noise level. Regularly uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. The position is primarily indoors and may require sitting for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; ability to read, perform basic math, and manage moderate stress. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
