MD or DO Degree

Qualifications

At least three (3) years of documented educational and/or administrative abilities, or qualifications acceptable to the ACGME Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee. Possessing specialty expertise and demonstrated clinical competence as a practicing physician is required. Prior experience as a Program Director is preferred.

Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).

Must be appointed, or eligible to be appointed as a medical staff member, with unrestricted credentials within Texas Health Resources and be licensed, or able to obtain a license, to practice medicine in the State of Texas.

Minimum of 3 years as a Hospitalist.

Open to an Associate Residency Director with 2 plus years of experience.

Strong organizational leadership and demonstrated effective leadership capability.

Hospitalist Clinical Duties and Responsibilities You will be clinically active as a Hospitalist in a cadence aligned with administrative duties and assigned by the site medical director.

Clinical Shifts Responsibilities

Supervising and teaching residents while providing all aspects of patient care.

Conducting daily teaching rounds to residents.

Attending and participating in multidisciplinary rounds.

Attending noon conferences.

Program Director duties are delineated below, and the monthly time sheet must be submitted and approved by the Texas Health Dallas CQMO and Texas Health Resources CAO.

Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Duties and Responsibilities The Program Director for Internal Medicine Education will provide expertise and leadership for the implementation of Undergraduate Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education clinical, and simulation training in Internal Medicine. The Program Director is responsible for the organization, implementation, accreditation, and supervision of the training program. The scope includes resident selection, orientation, evaluation, remediation, curriculum development, implementation and oversight, and activities in support of program evaluation, accreditation, improvement, and resident success. The success of the internal medicine residency program and each resident is directly related to the skills and competence of the Program Director. The Director must collaborate with the Internal Medicine Residency Staff, the THR Chief Academic Officer and/or Designated Institutional Official, THR Dallas senior leaders, and other THR GME leaders.

Responsibilities Will Include Administrative Activities

Direct and manage the core functions of structure, competency, and accreditation standards as per ACGME.

Know and comply with ACGME Core and Internal Medicine Specialty requirements.

Develop and implement the resident selection process, including interview processes, program registration for recruitment, educating faculty and residents on interviewing, reviewing applications, participating in recruiting days, leading ranking meetings, and certifying the program’s annual Rank Order List.

In the Program Director’s absence, identify a designee for administrative, educational, and didactic activities.

Develop implementation of, and manage, the completion milestones as evaluation tools.

Develop implementation of, and ensure compliance with, policies relevant to the operations of the internal medicine residency program per ACGME requirements, THR GME policies, and THR policies.

Identify and participate in projects designed to improve the quality of training for internal medicine residents.

Complete all required ACGME processes, surveys, and questionnaires by the due date.

Be facile with electronic information (ERAS, NRMP, spreadsheets, databases). Analyze data to evaluate trends and attainment of program objectives (resident performance, ABIM In-Training Examination results, career outcomes, recruitment success).

Develop and implement milestone-linked assessment tools.

Review rotation evaluations to identify opportunities for improvement.

Organize and participate in resident onboarding and orientation processes.

Committee Assignments

As a member, regularly attend and participate in the Texas Health Dallas Medical Executive Committee.

Participate in committees as assigned to support the advancement of the organization and the interests of the program and residents.

Teaching, Mentoring, and Role Modeling

Participate in didactic curriculum, retreats, wellness activities, and other residency events.

Ensure delivery of curriculum, including selecting and delivering didactic curriculum, recruiting and scheduling faculty to develop and deliver didactic curriculum, and delivering feedback and faculty development to those delivering didactic curriculum.

Deliver effective feedback regularly to all residents.

Ensure the delivery of activities to provide residents with education to develop clinical skills, professionalism, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership skills.

Mentor residents in scholarly and research-related activities.

Write letters of recommendation for residents and students and serve as a reference.

Assist residents with fellowship matching and job placement guidance as appropriate.

Foster the spirit of collegiality and camaraderie among residents and program faculty.

Coordinate and support medical student rotations in Internal Medicine.

Professional Development Activities

Participate in academic societies and educational programs designed to enhance educational and administrative skills, attending ACGME, AAIM and APDIM conferences regularly and other education-focused conferences as requested.

Other

Perform additional administrative, clinical, and supervisory functions, in support of residency program initiatives, as defined by the Chief Academic Officer and/or Designated Institutional Official and/or THD Chief Quality and Medical Officer.

The duties of the Physician as teaching faculty of the GME program outpatient environment

Provides direct patient care without residents as needed.

Directly oversee resident inpatient and ambulatory patient encounters including outpatient procedures; comply with direct and indirect supervision policies; ensure residents are developing differential diagnoses and treatment plans effectively.

Conduct formal and informal teaching sessions on relevant inpatient and outpatient internal medicine topics. Utilize evidence-based medicine in teaching and demonstrating how to integrate current research into clinical practice. Provide guidance on research opportunities and support residents in academic pursuits.

Educate residents on patient safety practices, quality improvement, and error prevention strategies in the outpatient setting. Participate and/or lead quality improvement projects, involving residents in these initiatives.

Provide formative feedback on residents’ clinical performance in accordance with program policies and procedures. Based on the applicable ACGME Internal Medicine Milestones, provide summative evaluations of residents’ performance regularly, but at least twice annually.

Model effective communication with patients, including empathy, clear explanations, and shared decision-making. Coach residents on communication skills, patient interactions, and within and among the healthcare team.

Ensure accurate and timely medical record documentation of residents, teaching them best practices in electronic health record (EHR) usage. Review and co-sign all resident notes in accordance with guidelines.

Demonstrate and teach sensitivity and adaptability to cultural, gender, and individual differences among patients and colleagues. Engage with other healthcare professionals for safe, effective, and high-value patient care. Teach residents how to effectively work in multidisciplinary teams for safe and high-value patient care.

Assign resident mentors, and as a mentor to residents conduct regular one-on-one meetings with the residents to discuss career goals, challenges, and progress.

Adhere to ethical guidelines and legal regulations in all clinical activities. Educate residents on ethical dilemmas and legal aspects of patient care.

Stay current with the latest guidelines and advancements in internal medicine, academic medicine, and teaching along with supervision of residents. Participate in ongoing professional development and CME activities, sharing learnings with the team.
