We are a well-established and growing plumbing and HVAC contractor serving Cape Cod. With 75 employees and a reputation for quality service and craftsmanship, we specialize in residential new construction and service. As we continue to scale, we seek a finance leader to join our executive team and drive the company’s financial health, compliance, and strategic planning.
Position Summary The CFO/Controller will oversee all financial and accounting functions for the company, including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, job costing, financial reporting, and risk management. This role is both strategic and operational, responsible for leading a small accounting team and providing critical insights to the ownership team to support sound business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Strategy
Lead financial planning, forecasting, and analysis to support company growth
Provide accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
Monitor KPIs and key business metrics; recommend corrective actions
Advise ownership on cash flow, capital investment, and cost management strategies
Accounting Operations
Oversee day-to-day accounting functions (AP, AR, GL, payroll, bank reconciliations)
Ensure accurate and timely job costing and WIP (work-in-progress) reports
Manage internal controls and compliance with GAAP
Prepare and manage annual budgets and financial audits
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws (including sales tax and payroll tax)
Maintain adequate insurance coverage and risk mitigation strategies
Support in HR role with internal and consultant partners
Supervise and develop the accounting and HR team (bookkeeper, AP/AR clerk, etc.)
Collaborate with project managers and department heads to ensure financial clarity
Serve as a member of the executive team, contributing to company-wide strategy
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3+ years of experience in a senior financial management role
Proficiency with accounting and CRM software (QuickBooks, Salesforce, or similar)
Strong background in job costing and construction/contractor financials
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred:
CPA or CMA designation
Experience with HVAC, plumbing, or other trade contractor businesses
