Job Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer oversees the financial, accounting and investment systems of CommunityGiving and its partners. The CFO ensures these systems are secure, effective, and efficient while fostering an organizational environment of collaboration and support. Location:

President & CEO Compensation:

Salary range dependent on experience: $145,000-$190,000 per year. Benefits Include:

Understand industry trends to adopt technologies that boost efficiency and effectiveness across the finance and CommunityGiving teams. Explore utilization of non-traditional/emerging gift vehicles. Compliance and Policy

Ensure all CG accounting practices follow legal guidelines and established accounting principles, including FASB compliance, monitoring, and adapting practices as changes occur. Maintain CommunityGiving’s compliance with all applicable financial and investment policies of the Board of Directors and recommend new or revised policies when appropriate. Collaborate with the internal team to create internal controls and policies. Oversees administration of funds managed by CommunityGiving. This includes regular review of funds for accuracy/compliance, approving quarterly fees, and closing funds as appropriate. Serve as primary contact for all financial related inquiries. Review organizational contracts with an eye to legal compliance and organizational standards.

Financial Reporting and Budgeting

Lead the budgeting process allowing for collaboration with other organizational leaders. Oversee all financial reporting. Provide specific high-level reports such as: FYE-Spendable, Cumulative giving, and Verified numbers for marketing purposes. Interpret financial information for staff and committee members as needed.

General Accounting

Provide final approval of tax documentation and audit preparation serving as the primary liaison with contracted independent accounting firm. Oversee all accounting systems within the organization this includes: Monthly bank and investment, reconciliations, Closing the month, and Reviewing accuracy of finance team deliverables. Review and sign all checks prior to distribution. Oversee the cash management for CG transferring funds to maximize earnings and limit risk.

Investments

Monitor investment performance for all assets of CommunityGiving and ensure rebalanced investment portfolios in alignment with established policies. Coordinate the set-up and closure of investment accounts. Serve as primary contact for investment and account managers.

Board and Committees

Shepherd the Investment and Finance committees by preparing materials and as staff facilitator. Participate in the New Opportunities committee, MREF/REG committee, Granite Charitable board and CG board meetings. Attend additional partner board and committee meetings as appropriate. Working with the CommunityGiving Human Resource services, hires, reviews, and provides direction to the finance team with the goal of maintaining a cooperative and professional working environment. Provide educational and advancement opportunities for staff. Support internal education and onboarding in the areas of expertise.

Operations

Prioritize security of the foundation’s data and information in all decision making. Research, select, and manage the insurance policies of the foundation insuring appropriate coverage. Ensures appropriate insurance coverage for various organizational events. Assess viability of potential partner foundations and supports onboarding if partnership deemed appropriate.

Human Resources

Support payroll process in collaboration with HR team through providing back-up for bi-weekly processing and ensuring quarterly taxes are accurate. Collaborate with Human Resources to select and administer CommunityGiving employee benefits.

CommunityGiving and Community Foundation Field

Serve as part of the overall CommunityGiving team. Support and encourage the building of collaborative and efficient systems to support all partner and associate foundations including education opportunities and other services for ALL CommunityGiving partner and associate foundations. Knowledgeable and involved in regional, state, and national philanthropic and community foundation field as requested including the Council on Foundations, Minnesota Council on Foundations and others. Represent CommunityGiving in providing peer and technical assistance, within advisory and affinity groups and as part of specialized sector efforts.

Other Duties

Perform other duties as required through the policies and procedures of CommunityGiving.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired Understanding of fund accounting principles and accrual-based accounting system. Knowledge of computer operations that integrate accounting modules including general ledger, accounts payable, gifts, grants and Microsoft Excel, Word, and Dynamics. Familiarity with FASB regulations as applied to public foundations. Accuracy with numbers and attention to detail. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain complete information and prepare reports. Ability to prioritize, organize, problem-solve, and move between multiple tasks.
