Job Summary The Student Engagement & Community Coordinator provides operational planning and oversight of various co-curricular events designed to enrich the academic experience of students enrolled in full-time graduate programs and part-time online programs at the School of Professional Studies. Provides management for an education, research and/or operations program/project, recommending goals, assessing feasibility and ongoing performance, and providing day-to-day oversight of administrative and operational functions.

Note: Some evening and weekend hours are necessary. Flexibility in working between the Evanston and Chicago campuses. This position has a weekly hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

Coordinate comprehensive programming, educational, student, alumni events, workshops, meetings, etc., including speakers and agendas.

Develop plans and arrange meetings, workshops, and events to provide opportunities for students to understand industry, innovation, and research in the field, and to exchange information with stakeholders.

Ensure event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments, and technology are arranged in a timely manner.

Plan and manage a yearly events calendar.

Plan and execute orientations for incoming full-time students.

Develop and execute a mentoring program with alumni and current students in coordination with the SPS Alumni Coordinator and NUAA.

Communications, Outreach & Recruitment

Develop coordinated, consistent messages.

Create and maintain an up-to-date website.

Incorporate social media and networking into program aspects as appropriate.

Strengthen partnerships with external resources by defining, promoting, and marketing benefits of participation and involvement.

Build relationships with organizations (including internal NU groups) to develop a network engaged in program success.

Review market trends to inform future plans to increase revenue, participation, and engagement.

Assist academic advisers in providing student communications and lifecycle support.

Collaborate with the NU community to offer enhanced services and opportunities to students.

Program Development

Manage program/seminar events, workshops, and related experiences aligned with goals and objectives.

Identify and obtain external expertise as needed and work with content experts to develop valuable student-facing events.

Manage speaker selection, communication, and topic development.

Lead program updates and improvements.

Student Support

Implement strategy regarding structure, process and staff support of students in compliance with NU policy.

Develop systems to assist faculty and students in career advising.

Collaborate with academic advising to provide educational support to students.

Budgets & Financial

Participate in budget preparation.

Maintain budget and related analysis and reports.

Evaluation

Observe program sessions and gather insights to improve program knowledge and student satisfaction.

Coordinate collection, analysis, and reporting of required information for surveys and review documents.

Track job placement of students in coordination with the SPS Alumni Coordinator to assess program success.

Analyze evaluation data to inform future event development.

Implement corrective actions based on surveys and other indicators.

Administration

Manage day-to-day operations and ensure program mission, values, policies, and procedures are followed.

Manage design and development of program databases, data analysis, and reporting.

Review processes and introduce appropriate technology to administrative and educational components.

Identify opportunities to improve services to achieve program goals.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree, or an appropriate combination of education and experience.

1 year of program/project administration, event planning, project management, or other relevant experience.

Minimum Competencies

Computer proficiency: familiarity with Excel, Outlook, Word, and Office software.

Communication: effective written and verbal communication in one-on-one, small groups, and public speaking contexts.

Customer focus: monitor student satisfaction and provide suggestions to improve quality and value.

Efficiency: attention to detail and adherence to policies while handling workload.

Organization: strong planning and scheduling capabilities; ability to manage multiple tasks.

Problem Solving: develop realistic plans and contingencies with measurable results.

Coachability: openness to feedback and continuous learning.

Cultural competency: sensitivity to diverse cultures and inclusive environment for faculty and students.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.

3-5 years of previous experience in event planning, project management, or similar.

Preferred Competencies

Business acumen: ability to lead cost-efficient initiatives without sacrificing quality.

Creativity: willingness to explore alternatives and improve procedures.

Familiarity with NU or higher education.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,000 to $60,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
