Overview
The Chief Estimator will oversee the estimation department, develop accurate and competitive bid proposals for electrical projects, and ensure that all estimates meet company standards and client expectations. This role requires technical knowledge, leadership skills, and strong analytical abilities.

Develop and maintain relationships with key personnel of GCs, Architects, Engineers, Vendors, Specialty Contractors, Manufacturers' Representatives, and Owners
Review and analyze bid opportunities with the Opportunity Manager, Executive Vice President, President, and location General Manager to determine which projects to pursue.
The goal is to seek the projects with the best profit potential that will allow us to achieve its financial goals.
Assign projects to local and regional estimating personnel to coordinate the preparation of estimates
Develop and/or maintain continuous improvement processes and manage local and regional estimating staff and resources to ensure that the continuous improvement processes are followed
Communicate with the leadership team when additional resources are required to achieve goals
Communicate with GCs / Owners before bidding to identify and/or define project scope, address deficiencies and significant risk factors, and confirm that the proposal provided will be responsive to their requirements
Maintain an understanding of the current local and national markets to ensure that the estimates produced are accurate, complete, and competitive
Analyze bid documents for potential alternate means and methods
Review proposals and final prices to identify risk issues and determine their magnitude
Provide and/or coordinate the training and development of the members of the estimating group
Ensure that established estimating processes are followed
Ensure that bid logs and tracking systems are current and accurate
Ensure that current and accurate databases for labor and materials are maintained and used
Develop a method and maintain a system to compile historical and current data (i.e., $$’s/sqft, Hrs/sqft, etc.)
Coordinate with operations and oversee analysis of field production to ensure that estimating units match actual production rates
Participate in the transfer of information on successful projects, including Job Kick-off Meetings
Required Skills
Knowledge of construction methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices
Ability to prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information and specifications
Ability to work well with others to gather information for project estimates
Ability to operate and lead others in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment
Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies within bid documents
Strong mathematical skills
Strong commitment to developing others and building teams
Proven leadership skills
Proficiency in Accubid estimating software
Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project)
Ability and commitment to meet deadlines
Willing to travel
Ten or more years of relevant electrical estimating experience
