Job Title:
Chief Estimator We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department and oversee the development of accurate, competitive bid proposals for electrical projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in electrical estimating, proven leadership abilities, and excellent analytical skills to ensure estimates meet company standards and client expectations. Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong relationships with GCs, Architects, Engineers, Vendors, Specialty Contractors, Manufacturers’ Representatives, and Owners. Collaborate with the Opportunity Manager, Executive VP, President, and General Manager to review bid opportunities and select projects with optimal profit potential. Assign projects to local and regional estimating personnel and oversee the preparation of estimates. Implement and maintain continuous improvement processes, ensuring the estimating team follows best practices. Communicate with leadership to secure additional resources when needed to meet goals. Engage with GCs and Owners pre-bid to define project scope, address risks, and ensure responsive proposals. Maintain knowledge of local and national markets to produce accurate, complete, and competitive estimates. Analyze bid documents for alternate means and methods, review proposals for risk, and determine their impact. Provide training, mentoring, and development for the estimating team. Ensure estimating processes, bid logs, tracking systems, and labor/material databases are current and accurate. Coordinate with operations to compare estimating units with actual field production rates and update units accordingly. Participate in estimates for high-profile or design-build projects when necessary. Facilitate the transfer of information on successful projects, including Job Kick-off Meetings. Qualifications
10+ years of electrical estimating experience, including leading a team of estimators. Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices. Ability to prepare conceptual budgets with minimal information. Excellent collaboration, communication, and leadership skills. Strong attention to detail, mathematical ability, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Accubid estimating software and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project). Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills, work ethic, and commitment to developing others. Willingness to travel as required.
