Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Database Administrator (DBA)
to support database operations, security, compliance, and maintenance activities. The DBA will be responsible for ensuring database reliability, performance, and compliance with federal standards while providing technical support to application teams and end users. Responsibilities
Database Operations & Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance including backups, patches, updates, and performance tuning. Monitor database performance, identify/resolve bottlenecks, and automate routine tasks with scripts. Conduct regular data integrity checks and basic capacity planning. Maintain database documentation and adhere to change management processes. Security & Compliance
Implement and enforce database security policies and user access controls. Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediate findings. Maintain FISMA compliance (encryption, access logging, audit trails). Support internal and external security audits with required documentation and reporting. Ensure adherence to federal data protection regulations and organizational security standards. Backup & Support
Design, implement, and test database backup/recovery procedures with documented RTO/RPO. Provide incident response and coordinate with vendors during outages or issues. Support application teams with troubleshooting and query/database optimization. Manage group permissions and provide prompt user access support. Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience). 5+ years of experience in database administration (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar). Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, backup/recovery, and high availability. Hands-on experience with database security, encryption, and audit compliance (FISMA preferred). Experience with scripting/automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Shell). Familiarity with federal compliance standards (FISMA, NIST, or equivalent). Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred Skills
Experience with federal IT environments. Knowledge of cloud-based database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, etc.). Certification in database administration or security (e.g., Oracle DBA, Microsoft Certified, CISSP). Details
