Remote Overview: The Senior SQL Server Database Engineer is a highly skilled technologist with deep T-SQL expertise who designs and supports end-to-end data solutions for complex business needs. This role focuses on database and ETL development, performance tuning, and supporting large-scale SQL Server operations. The engineer plays a critical role in improving data reliability, optimizing system performance, and enabling high-quality reporting across the organization. Primary Responsibilities: Develop complex T-SQL stored procedures, queries, views, triggers, and functions to support enterprise-grade applications and analytics.
Design and maintain robust, scalable ETL pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) that ensure accuracy, performance, and maintainability.
Continuously tune and optimize SQL Server performance using indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and monitoring tools.
Implement strong logging and instrumentation practices to enhance troubleshooting and observability of data operations.
Deliver high-quality, well-documented, and testable code within tight project timelines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teamsincluding developers, analysts, and business stakeholdersto translate requirements into effective data solutions.
Estimate tasks accurately, maintain clear documentation, and communicate status effectively.
Conduct unit testing and contribute to long-term maintainability through clear documentation and knowledge sharing.
Provide ongoing support for delivered solutions, including production troubleshooting and on-call availability when needed.
Required Qualifications: Expert-level Transact-SQL (T-SQL) development skills, with the ability to create and optimize complex procedures, triggers, and queries from scratch.
5+ years of experience developing and managing SSIS packages, with an emphasis on performance, error handling, and reusability.
Strong background in SQL Server performance tuning, including use of SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, Query Store, and other diagnostic tools.
Demonstrated ability to build highly reliable and performant ETL solutions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented, results-driven approach.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
Willingness to contribute to a broad range of tasks, including after-hours and on-call support as needed.
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to knowledge sharing and mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Visual Studio and Git or similar source control tools.
Familiarity with database performance monitoring platforms like SolarWinds DPA or equivalent tools.
Passion for automation and continuous improvement of data processes.
Education & Experience: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
10+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or newer preferred).
5+ years of experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) development and support.
