Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 14 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Compact License or single state license acceptable Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Strong Neuro experience - Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Experience with external ventricular drains, cranial procedures, and burr holes Description: The Neuro ICU is a comprehensive accredited stroke unit. The patient population primarily consists of neuroscience patients, with some medical and surgical overflow. Neurosurgical conditions include hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, aneurysms, and vascular malformations requiring intervention. Mild to severe traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury cases are managed here. Planned surgical removal of tumors is also common in this unit. Primary neurological conditions treated are ischemic strokes requiring TPA or thrombectomy, seizure disorders, and neuro infections. Travelers are required to have 3 hours of recent stroke education within the last year. The NIHSS training may count toward this time requirement. The nursing ratios are 1:2 during both days and nights. Expect to float to other ICUs and acute care areas as necessary. Clinical documentation is done using a specific charting system. All candidates must possess essential skills including arterial line management and ventilator management. Floating between units may occur based on facility needs.
