This position reports each day to the CBJ Street Maintenance Shop at 7100 Glacier Hwy. At the start of each shift employees are dispatched to work locations around Juneau. In the event of a major weather event such as snow or flooding employees may be required to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays to ensure the safety of the traveling public. From October through March of every year we have a night shift. 11:00pm until 7:00am; an early morning shift 3:00am - 11:00pm; and a day shift 7:00am - 3:00pm. These shifts are scheduled on a two-month rotation dependent on staffing levels. Typical Responsibilities As part of the Street Maintenance Crew, you will perform various tasks associated with the year-round maintenance of CBJ streets. Your duties will include but will not be limited to; operating heavy and light-duty equipment, asphalt patching, maintenance of all vegetation, signs, barricades, fences, bridges, culverts and drainage structures, and road surfaces within the City Right-of-way (ROW) as well as performing traffic control duties including flagging. As a part of winter operations, you will also perform snow and ice control as well as gravel road maintenance. At times, tasks are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful whenever operating assigned equipment. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained. This position regularly works outdoors in hot, cold, and/or wet weather conditions. This position requires heavy lifting, physical endurance, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Minimum QualificationsEquipment Operator-in-Training I (Range 10) $22.74 - $24.27A valid Alaska driver's license at time of appointment.Special Note: Requires a valid Class "B" State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License valid for vehicles equipped with airbrakes and a Tanker (N) endorsement within six (6) months of appointment and for continued employment.
