My client provides service-bid, design-build, and general contracting services to clients in the Commercial and Industrial Construction markets. They foster relationships with their clients to add value. With three offices and over 300 employees, they are among the top local contractors in the state of Alabama.
This client self-performs several functions and also has an in-house Steel Fabrication unit (subsidiary). This unit provides services to unrelated clients in addition to the parent GC, and is seeking a leader to step in and oversee the production, quality assurance, and logistics of all products by managing an existing team of experienced fabrication professionals.

Job Description
Oversee the day-to-day operations within the fabrication shop Manage a team of welders, fitters, machine operators, and painters Ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all production activities, including meeting production cost estimates Plan and manage workflow Order miscellaneous shop materials, receive and record steel materials ordered by the Project Manager, manage inventory, and coordinate resources to optimize productivity Recruit, train, develop, and retain shop employees (with assistance from the HR department) MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law. The Successful Applicant
A successful
Steel Fabrication Shop Superintendent
will have:
Proven experience in metal fabrication, welding, and shop operations (typically 5+ years) Strong understanding of fabrication techniques including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications Familiarity with CNC machinery, blasting and painting equipment, and other fabrication equipment Familiarity with coatings and the application process (paint products and dip galvanizing) Knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA regulations Experience with quality control standards and inspection procedures Leadership and Management Skills Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment, preferably in a plant with at least 10 or more employees Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate production activities to meet deadlines Strong problem solving and decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Capable of mentoring, training, and evaluating shop personnel What's on Offer
