Summary of Job The

Municipal Court Clerk

plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Elkhorn Municipal Court. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential court records in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes §775.11, providing administrative support to the Municipal Judge, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the court office. Working under general supervision, the Court Clerk manages court documentation, processes payments for court-imposed fines, and attends all court proceedings. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interact professionally with the public, legal professionals, and government officials. This is a

part-time position , typically requiring

hours per week , with

up to 20 hours during court weeks . Regular office hours are

Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM . Court sessions are generally held

once per month , usually on the

second or third Wednesday , with

Initial Appearances at 1:00 PM

and

Juvenile cases at 3:00 PM . The expected starting wage is

$22.25 per hour . Candidates with prior court clerk experience may be considered for a higher starting rate, up to$26.42 per hour. This position is not eligible for additional benefits.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs statutory duties of Court Clerk; maintains essential Court records, prepares and submits reports as required by various State agencies, collects, records, and receipts payment of Court fines. Performs administrative and support functions; creates and distributes Court-related informational materials; records in-court proceedings, findings, and orders; follows-up on case records; prepares correspondence relative to Court activities. Qualifications

High school diploma required; post-secondary education preferred. 2-3 years of administrative and/or clerical experience required; experience in a court or court-related office is highly desirable. Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License. Must be eligible to be bonded. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Physical Requirements:

Ability to routinely stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, reach with hands; occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made in order to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. Mathematical Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percents. Ability to comprehend, interpret or prepare a variety of court documents. Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication:

Ability to understand and execute Municipal Court Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures and follow instructions. Ability to use and interpret basic legal terminology. Ability to communicate effectively with City officials, attorneys, Municipal Court Judge, county and state officials, and the general public. Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to operate computer using Microsoft Office, calculator, typewriter, photocopier, fax machine, and telephone. Working knowledge of basic accounting principles. Good knowledge of office practices and procedures, and skill in their application. Ability to work independently and to complete assigned tasks with limited supervision.
